The Crunchyroll showcase at New York Comic Con 2026 brought the long-awaited news that Ji-Hoon Jeong's acclaimed webtoon The Boxer is officially heading to the small screen. The announcement included a promotional trailer offering a first look at the series' intense, character-driven aesthetic, alongside the reveal of a high-profile production team.

Directing duties are split between Takehiro Kubota and Won-yeong Kang, with character designs by Masahiro Suwa. The script and series composition will be handled by Toshiya Oono. The voice cast features Kouki Uchiyama as the emotionally detached protagonist Yu, joined by Toshiyuki Toyonaga as J, Tomokazu Seki as K, and Kensho Ono as Ryu Baeksan. The project is a collaborative effort involving Blue Rights, Naver Webtoons, Crunchyroll, and Xtorm, with animation production led by studios breccia and Studio Jemi.

While the webtoon concluded its run in 2025 with its 13th volume, the series has maintained a strong international following since its English digital debut on Line Webtoon in 2020. The transition from a static webtoon format to a dynamic sports anime presents a unique challenge for the production team, particularly in capturing the series' signature kinetic fight sequences. With the core staff now confirmed, the primary question remains the production's premiere window, which has yet to be announced.
