Naver WEBTOON has officially entered the interactive AI space with the launch of byUs, a platform designed to let readers step into the worlds of their favorite series. By interacting with characters from creator-approved intellectual properties, users can influence narrative outcomes, effectively becoming the protagonist of their own unique stories within established webtoon universes.
The platform categorizes its content into two distinct formats: 'Original Stories,' which utilize official lore as a foundation for AI-driven branching paths, and 'Fan Stories,' a creative suite that empowers users to draft and share their own scenarios. To keep the experience immersive, the app incorporates features like AI-suggested dialogue, automated conversation flows, and 'Snapshots' that visualize key moments in the chat.
Progression is tied to a relationship system, where deepening bonds with characters unlocks exclusive 'Special Cuts.' The service debuted with the popular webtoon Ctrl+Alt+Resign, and the company intends to broaden its library to include other hit series in the near future. While currently limited to users in Korea, the launch follows the success of the company's previous 'Character Chat' initiative, which saw over 100 million messages exchanged globally since its 2024 debut.
