WEBTOON Entertainment is making a aggressive push into the interactive media space, announcing a definitive agreement to acquire a 60% controlling stake in RI Games Holdings Inc. This strategic move aims to leverage WEBTOON's massive library of intellectual property, with plans to roll out multiple game titles based on hit series over the next four years.

The initiative centers on RI Games’ two primary development studios, GrayGames and Offbeat. The first major project out of the gate is an action MMORPG based on the high-fantasy hit Overgeared. With over 1.3 billion global views, the title is being developed by GrayGames and will be published by Nexon later this year. The game’s release is timed to coincide with the October premiere of the Overgeared anime, produced by J.C. Staff and directed by Ayako Kōno.

Beyond the immediate release, the partnership has a long-term roadmap for other heavy-hitters. An adaptation of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint—which boasts a staggering 3.05 billion views—is currently in development at Offbeat. Published by Com2uS, this title is targeting a 2028 release window for PC and console platforms. The deal also encompasses other high-traffic properties like Doom Breaker, signaling a shift in how the company intends to manage its cross-media ecosystem.
