Author Niichi has confirmed that their romantic comedy manga Real mo Tama ni wa Uso wo Tsuku (Sometimes Even Reality Is a Lie!) is slated for a television anime adaptation in 2027. The creator shared a commemorative illustration on their official social media channels to celebrate the production announcement.
The series originated as a web manga in 2018 under the title Game-zuki no Tomodachi to Iroiro suru Hanashi before moving to official serialization under the Kitora comic label in 2020. With the ninth and final volume of the print run set to hit shelves on September 16, the anime will serve as a complete adaptation of the story.
At the heart of the narrative is Kaoru Terazaki, a boy who has been playing an online game using a female avatar, while his gaming partner Nanami has been using a male avatar. The premise kicks off when the two decide to meet in person, only to discover they have both been hiding their true genders. To maintain appearances after Nanami accidentally introduces Kaoru as a female friend to her parents, the duo resorts to cross-dressing, sparking an unconventional and complicated bond.
