Mii-chan to Yamada-san (Mii-chan and Miss Yamada) is officially heading to the screen. Following the success of Nene Azuki’s drama manga, Kodansha announced that an anime adaptation is currently in production with a planned 2027 debut. To celebrate the news, Azuki shared a commemorative illustration for the project.
Serialized on the Magazine Pocket platform since September 2024, the story follows the complex intersection of lives in Shinjuku's nightlife scene. The narrative centers on Yamada, a university student working as a hostess, and her unexpected bond with Mii-chan, a clumsy and guileless colleague who defies the expectations of the industry. The manga has resonated strongly with readers, boasting 2.8 million copies in circulation and a nomination for the 50th Kodansha Manga Awards.
The series is reaching its conclusion in print, with the seventh and final volume set for release on September 9. International readers won't have to wait long to catch up, as Seven Seas Entertainment has secured the English license, with the first volume scheduled to hit shelves on December 8. Given its high critical standing—including a fourth-place finish in the 2026 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings—the 2027 adaptation is poised to bring the series' poignant, tragic exploration of friendship to a much broader audience.
