The Wasted Chef anime film project has released its first teaser trailer, offering a glimpse into the upcoming feature. The film, directed by Takayuki Hirao, also announced a manga adaptation set to debut in Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine on June 4, with Aero05 handling the art.

Director Hirao is reuniting with key staff members from his previous film, Pompo: The Cinéphile, including animation studio CLAP, character designer Shingo Adachi, and composer Kenta Matsukuma. Hirao himself is credited with the original story and is penning the script for Wasted Chef. The film's teaser visual carries the tagline, "That day, 'you' and 'taste' vanished from the world."

Variety reports that the film is targeting completion in 2027. The synopsis describes a young chef who arrives in a desolate city devoid of taste, where his cooking helps a character named Kasumi recall forgotten memories. Their quest becomes crucial as a dark force threatens to eliminate all desire, potentially jeopardizing both their worlds.

The project was initially announced in June 2023 and was recently featured as a work-in-progress at the Annecy Animation Showcase, part of the Cannes Animation initiative.
