The production team behind Wareware wa Uchuujin (We Are Aliens) has expanded its cast list as the film gears up for its September 25 theatrical debut in Japan. Joining the production are Gaku Sano as Seiya Toda, Reika Ozeki as the younger version of Toda, Arisa Sasaki as Elmo Matsushita, and Harumi Edo as the Calligraphy Teacher.

Helmed by director and screenwriter Kouhei Kadowaki, known for his work on Beastars 2nd Season, the film is being produced by Nothing New with support from Miyu Productions. The project’s musical score is being handled by Yaffle, who previously contributed to Poupelle of Chimney Town. The film’s development received a significant boost from a crowdfunding campaign on Motion Gallery, which successfully surpassed its 8 million yen target to reach over 9 million yen in total funding.

Wareware wa Uchuujin is a contemplative drama that follows the lives of two friends, Tsubasa and Kyotaro, from their childhood encounter in the third grade and across a span of thirty years. As a coming-of-age story that examines the divergence of personal paths and the lasting impact of formative friendships, the film represents a departure from Kadowaki’s previous action-heavy directorial work, offering a grounded, character-driven narrative.
