The Japanese entertainment industry is mourning the loss of veteran actress and voice talent Yukiko Nikaido, who died on July 3 at the age of 87. Her son, Sōsuke Yagyū, shared the news via the Facebook page for the Yatsugatake Club, noting that she had been residing in a nursing home for the past 11 years.
Born in Tokyo in 1938, Nikaido honed her craft at the Haiyuza Theatre Company before establishing a career in afternoon serialized dramas. Following the birth of her first son, she transitioned into voice acting, where she cemented her legacy in anime history. She is most iconic for her portrayal of the femme fatale Fujiko Mine in the original 1971-1972 Lupin the 3rd television series.
Beyond her work in the Lupin franchise, Nikaido contributed her voice to several notable classics, including the role of Anna in Marco - From the Apennines to the Andes and its subsequent film adaptation. She was also recognized for her performance as Sugaru in Kamui Gaiden: Tsukihigai no Maki. Outside of her acting career, she was instrumental in the founding of the Yamanashi-based Yatsugatake Club, serving as the facility's first president.
