Voice actress Sumire Uesaka has withdrawn from her scheduled appearances at the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair (KyoMAF) 2026 following a series of severe threats. Her agency, Voice Kit, confirmed that they have received multiple malicious emails containing specific threats of kidnapping and violence directed at the performer. The agency has since involved local law enforcement and is actively cooperating with an ongoing investigation.
The threats, which reportedly claim knowledge of Uesaka’s personal residence, prompted the agency to coordinate with event organizers to ensure her safety through September 27. Consequently, Uesaka will no longer serve as the PR ambassador for this year's KyoMAF, nor will she participate in the opening and closing ceremonies or the scheduled stage event for Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian.
Uesaka remains a prolific figure in the industry, known for roles such as Shalltear Bloodfallen in Overlord and Anastasia in The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls. Her recent work also extends into major gaming titles, including her role as Odette in Genshin Impact and Obsidian in Honkai: Star Rail.
Why it matters: The cancellation highlights the increasing security challenges faced by high-profile voice talent in the industry. While the immediate threat window is defined by the agency's statement, it remains unclear how these security concerns might impact her broader schedule beyond the end of September.
