Visual Arts/Key announced that Jun Maeda, the writer and composer known for his work on visual novels such as Clannad and Air, has been diagnosed with pharyngeal cancer. According to the company, Maeda began experiencing throat discomfort in early spring, leading to a formal diagnosis after symptoms worsened over the summer. Maeda has opted to prioritize palliative care to conserve his strength for ongoing creative projects.
Regarding his current professional commitments, Visual Arts/Key confirmed that Maeda has finished his scenario writing and musical contributions for the first half of Chapter 6 in the mobile game Heaven Burns Red. While he has completed the necessary story elements to conclude the chapter, the company noted that his involvement in future scenarios and music production may be restricted depending on the progression of his illness. Additionally, Maeda is shifting his focus to finalize a new original music project for YouTube, intending to release the completed tracks sequentially.
Maeda, 51, previously faced a significant health challenge in 2016 when he was diagnosed with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. Visual Arts/Key has requested that fans respect his privacy and has provided a channel for supporters to send letters of encouragement, though they noted that individual replies will not be possible and gifts cannot be accepted.
