Nippon Ichi Software’s life-simulation title Village in the Shade (originally released in Japan as Hono Gurashi no Niwa) is heading to Western markets on October 27. NIS America confirmed the release across Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, accompanied by two new trailers—including a "Sunshine Version"—that showcase the game’s serene, rural aesthetic.
The game follows a protagonist who, after becoming lost on a mountain, is granted shelter in a mysterious village on the condition that they contribute to the community. The gameplay loop centers on rural labor, requiring players to cultivate crops, maintain livestock, hunt, fish, and craft furniture. To personalize the experience, the title includes a robust customization suite for the protagonist’s hair, clothing, and various accessories.
Behind the project is a team of notable industry veterans. Yu Mizokami, the creative mind behind the Yomawari series, serves as planner and game designer, while Shin Hayarigami composer Kazuya Takasu handles the soundtrack. With Mio Katsumata leading development, the Western release will also feature a Limited Edition physical bundle. This premium set includes a collector’s box, an art book, the original soundtrack, an acrylic block, and a set of metal pins.
