Ahead of its September 11 theatrical debut, Kadokawa has released the opening sequence for Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun: Ukkari Detekita Uchūjin o Sagase! (Space Academy: Find the Aliens Who Accidentally Came Out!). The footage offers a glimpse into the whimsical world of Kotetsu-kun, an aspiring astronaut at the Animal Space Academy, while highlighting the film's distinct visual direction, which pairs traditional anime sequences with actual footage captured in space.
The film expands on the premise of the long-running web manga by Yūji Nishimura, which first debuted in 2019 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. In this new installment, the story kicks into gear when the protagonist, Kotetsu, discovers evidence suggesting the existence of extraterrestrials, prompting a frantic, academy-wide search for visitors from another world.
Fans of the franchise will find familiar faces in the cast, as the voice actors from the television series are set to reprise their roles for the big screen. Produced by the studio Fanworks, the film continues the legacy of the 64-episode television anime that aired on NHK Educational between 2021 and 2023. This project follows the success of the franchise's previous spin-offs, including the Uchuu Nanchara Kotetsu-kun Planetarium side story, further cementing the series' focus on blending comedy and space-themed education.
