Kadokawa has unveiled the opening two minutes of Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun: Ukkari Detekita Uchūjin o Sagase!, giving viewers a look at the upcoming big-screen outing for Yūji Nishimura’s web manga series. The footage arrives just ahead of the film's theatrical debut on September 11, setting the stage for a mission where space pilot trainee Kotetsu and his classmates at the Animal Space Academy embark on a quest to locate aliens.
Adding to the production's appeal, Shōko Nakagawa has been cast to voice the various extraterrestrial characters encountered throughout the journey. Nakagawa is also lending her talents to the soundtrack, performing the theme song titled "Uchū no Nanchara Nakama."
Director Yoshinori Tsutsui leads the project, working from a script by Yōichi Katō, who returns to the franchise after writing for the television series. The film distinguishes itself by incorporating a mix of standard animation and actual footage of space. The core voice cast from the NHK Educational television anime, which ran for two seasons between 2021 and 2023, will reprise their roles.
The project maintains its educational roots, with The Young Astronaut Club-Japan providing space supervision. This film continues the narrative established in the original manga, which launched in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and has since followed Kotetsu's earnest pursuit of his dreams among the stars.
