TV Asahi has revealed its new short anime programming block, PicoAni, along with its initial slate of titles. The block aims to showcase a variety of short-form animated content, featuring characters originating from social media, mascots, and original concepts.
The lineup includes Koupen-chan, an anime based on Rurutea's popular illustrations. This series, directed by Kyō Yatate at Lesprit, began airing in April 2025 and features Ayaka Saitō as the titular character. Sirotan, the white seal mascot from Creative Yoko, will also join the block. The anime adaptation, starring Aoi Yūki as Sirotan, is scheduled for an October premiere, with Arisa Okada directing at Lesprit.
PicoAni will also host Pop Pap Polters, a miniature anime from MOZU STUDIOS, beginning in October. Additionally, the block will feature the 3DCG short anime Momomo! Ninimo, a collaboration between Pinkfong and TV Asahi, which is slated for a January 2027 debut. The anime centers on Nini, an orange cat character.
Rounding out the initial lineup is the Josemaru anime, based on Inochi-ya's plush toy character. This series will also premiere in January 2027, with Inochi-ya directing at Animi. The character is described as a small creature designed around the concept of 'living in reality'.
