The Japan Cartoonists Association (JCA) has announced the winners for its 54th annual awards. The grand prize in the Comic division was awarded to Tomato Soup for their work A Witch's Life in Mongol (Tenmaku no Jādūgar).
Other major awards included the Cartoon division prize, which went to WART for WART CARTOON — Understanding Myanmar's Suffering and Hopes Through Single-Panel Comics. Machio Same secured the Manga division award for Manga Ishibumi: When the Atomic Bomb Fell, We Were Looking at the Sky, a title based on a Hiroshima TV documentary.
Additional accolades were presented to Mado Saitō for Dissecting a Monster, which received the Manga Kingdom Tottori award. Yan Gao's Sukima (Gap) earned the Manga Kingdom Tosa award. The MEXT award was given to all works by manga creator Big Joe.
Each grand prize winner receives 500,000 yen (approximately US$3,145) and a certificate. The JCA has been presenting these awards since 1972.
