The organizers of Tokyo Game Show 2026 have officially canceled the event's final day, scheduled for Monday, September 21, in response to the arrival of Typhoon Dujuan. Citing concerns over heavy rain, high winds, and potential disruptions to public transportation, management prioritized the safety of exhibitors and visitors in their decision to close the venue early.
While the Monday programming is scrapped, the event will continue as planned through Sunday, September 20. To mitigate the loss of scheduled content, organizers are currently working to transition some of the planned Monday stage presentations into online streams. Attendees who purchased tickets specifically for the final day are eligible for refunds, with further details expected via the official event website.
This year’s iteration of the long-running expo was notable for its ambitious five-day format, expanding beyond the traditional four-day schedule that saw over 263,000 attendees last year. With the first two business days already concluded, the event saw a strong start with a combined attendance of over 106,000 people on Thursday and Friday. The shift to a shortened schedule marks a rare interruption for the historic show, which has evolved significantly since its inception as a three-day event in 1996.
