The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will host the North American premiere of the live-action adaptation of Look Back, the celebrated one-shot manga by Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto. The festival, which runs from September 10 through September 20, will announce its specific screening schedule on August 11.
This adaptation is spearheaded by acclaimed director Hirokazu Kore-eda, who is handling the screenplay and editing alongside his directorial duties. The production features a high-profile creative team, including composer Yūta Bandō, whose credits include BELLE and Kaiju No. 8. Following its debut at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival in May, the project is set for a broader theatrical rollout in 2026 across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland through GKIDS.
This live-action iteration follows the 2024 anime film adaptation, which resonated with audiences globally and performed well during its own limited North American theatrical run. Fujimoto’s original story—a deeply personal look at the bond between two aspiring manga artists—continues to be a standout title in his catalog since its 2021 debut on Shonen Jump+. With the live-action version arriving shortly after the film's Japanese premiere on September 11, international viewers will have their first opportunity to experience this new interpretation of Fujimoto’s work this autumn.
