The supernatural mystery series Thunder 3 is set to return, with a second season officially announced for 2027. The news arrived alongside a teaser promotional video following the broadcast of the anime's 12th and final episode this past Thursday.
Produced by studio Unend, the series adapts the manga written and illustrated by Yuuki Ikeda, which concluded its serialization in Monthly Shounen Magazine in June 2026. The television adaptation made its debut on July 9, reaching international audiences through a worldwide simulcast on Netflix.
While the anime's first season has wrapped, the source material remains a notable title, having secured fourth place in the Male Readers' category of the 2024 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings. Kodansha USA currently publishes the English version of the manga under its Vertical Comics imprint, with the eighth volume having hit shelves earlier this February.
Why it matters: With the manga series having concluded its run in August 2026, the 2027 return suggests a deliberate production timeline for the adaptation's final arc. It remains to be seen if the returning staff will maintain the same production pace established during the first cour.
