The supernatural horror-mystery The Summer Hikaru Died (Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu) is approaching its conclusion. The official social media account for creator Mokumokuren announced on Tuesday that the series will wrap up in just two more installments. The penultimate chapter, number 50, is slated for release on October 13, with the final chapter, 51, following on October 20.
Since its debut on Kadokawa's Young Ace Up platform in August 2021, the series has garnered significant critical acclaim, including nominations for the Manga Taisho Awards and the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. The story, which follows the unsettling transformation of a boy named Hikaru after he is touched by a mysterious light, has proven to be a commercial success, surpassing 3 million copies in circulation by the time its sixth volume was released.
Beyond the original manga, the franchise has expanded into several other formats. Readers can find the English edition published by Yen Press, which has the eighth volume scheduled for an October 27 release. The series also inspired a light novel adaptation by Mio Nukaga, a stage play, and an anime adaptation that premiered in July 2025. With a second season of the anime already confirmed, the conclusion of the source material marks a definitive turning point for the franchise’s narrative trajectory.
