The Ryuo's Work Is Never Done! light novel series is set to conclude with its 21st volume, slated for release on July 15. SB Creative's GA Bunko imprint confirmed earlier this year that this volume will bring the saga of prodigy shogi player Yaichi Kuzuryuu to a close.

The main narrative arc of the novels wrapped up with the 20th volume in June 2025. Author Shirow Shiratori had previously indicated his desire to continue exploring the characters and potentially penning spin-off stories even after the main plot's conclusion. The series, illustrated by Shirabi, launched in 2015 and is known for its focus on the intense world of professional shogi.

Originally adapted from Shiratori's novels, the franchise also spawned a manga by Kazuki and Kogetaokoge, which ran from 2015 to 2019. A 12-episode anime television adaptation, produced by Project No.9, aired in Winter 2018 and was streamed by Crunchyroll. A PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch game adaptation was also released in December 2020.
