The latest promotional video for The Ribbon Hero offers a poignant glimpse into the relationship between Sapphire and Pine, setting the stage for the film's global premiere on Netflix this August 8. The footage emphasizes the emotional bond between the two characters as they prepare to confront the encroaching threat of the calamity known as “Nergal.”
Directed by Yuuki Igarashi, who is making his feature-length debut at his studio OUTLINE, the film reimagines Osamu Tezuka’s legendary Princess Knight source material. The story follows Sapphire, a displaced princess seeking refuge in Goldland, who must take up her sword once more when her past catches up with her. The film's production team includes character design contributions from industry veterans Kei Mochizuki and Mai Yoneyama, with a score composed by MONACA’s Satoru Kōsaki and Ryūichi Takada.
The voice cast is led by comedian Saya in her first major feature-length anime role as Sapphire, alongside Seiran Kobayashi as Pine. They are joined by Kōki Uchiyama as Velvet and Mayumi Shintani as Zirco. Following its recent showcase at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the project is positioned as a modern expansion of the classic manga, which has seen various English-language releases through publishers like Vertical and Kodansha USA.
