The Ribbon Hero, a new anime film inspired by Osamu Tezuka's classic manga Princess Knight, has revealed its first teaser trailer and main cast. The film is slated for a worldwide debut on August 8, distributed by Netflix.

Comedic duo Lalande member Saya takes on the leading role of Princess Sapphire, marking her feature-length animated debut. The story follows Sapphire, the princess of the lost kingdom of Silverland, who must confront the calamity known as Nergal after finding hope in Goldland. Driven by the loss of her homeland, she vows to protect others from suffering the same fate, taking up her sword to defy destiny.

The film is directed by Yuuki Igarashi, his first feature-length directorial project, helmed at his new studio OUTLINE. Kei Mochizuki handled character designs, with assistance from Mai Yoneyama and animation character design by Issei Arakaki. The musical score is provided by Satoru Kōsaki and Ryūichi Takada of MONACA. Additional staff include Okama for Nergal Design and Masanobu Nomura as Art Director.

The Ribbon Hero will also be presented at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in the non-competitive "Annecy Presents" section from June 21-27. Kodansha USA Publishing released a collected omnibus of Tezuka's original Princess Knight manga in August 2022. Source: Press release
