The popular romantic fantasy webtoon The Remarried Empress is officially making the jump to television animation. Announced during New York Comic Con, the project is currently in production at studio TROYCA and is slated for a 2027 release. The series is based on the webtoon by HereLee and SUMPUL, which itself originated from a web novel by Alphatart.

The production features a notable voice cast, with Yōko Hikasa stepping into the role of the protagonist, Navier. She is joined by Ryōhei Kimura as Heinrey, Tomoaki Maeno as the Emperor Sovieshu, and Reina Ueda as Rashta. Behind the scenes, director Tetsuya Yanagisawa is leading the project, working from scripts supervised by Akiko Inoue, with character designs by Jun Nakai and a score composed by Yūki Fukazawa.

Navier’s story—a tale of a betrayed Empress who seeks to reclaim her dignity and status in a foreign land—has already seen massive international success, boasting over 2.97 billion views across its seven-year run. While the webtoon concluded its primary narrative earlier this year, it remains a significant franchise property. In addition to the upcoming anime, a live-action adaptation is set to debut on Disney+ and Hulu on November 4, spanning 10 episodes.

Why it matters: The simultaneous development of both an anime and a live-action series underscores the massive reach of the source material. With the webtoon returning for side stories this fall, the franchise is entering a period of high visibility across multiple media formats.
