The upcoming television adaptation of Magic Knight Rayearth is preparing to introduce the fantasy world of Cefiro to a new generation this October. Ahead of an advance screening at Anime Expo 2026, voice actresses Rie Takahashi and Saori Hayami shared their experiences stepping into the roles of Fuu Hououji and Princess Emeraude, respectively.

Takahashi emphasized the importance of capturing the characters' initial meeting. During early recording sessions, the production team asked the cast to adjust their performances to ensure the trio sounded like strangers rather than close friends, allowing the audience to witness their bond develop naturally. Takahashi noted that she and her co-stars eventually built a genuine rapport that helped ground their on-screen chemistry.

Hayami described the challenge of portraying Princess Emeraude, balancing the character's immense sense of duty with her underlying human emotions. She also reflected on working alongside Yuuki Ono, who voices Zagato. Despite their long professional history, Hayami found their dynamic as opposing counterparts in this series to be a fresh and motivating experience.

This project serves as a modern reimagining of the iconic 1993 manga by CLAMP. While the original series remains a staple of the shoujo genre, the production team is focused on translating its core themes of willpower and friendship for current viewers. Why it matters: The emphasis on maintaining the characters' initial distance suggests a commitment to faithful character development, though it remains to be seen how other classic elements of the series will be updated for the new adaptation.
