The One Piece, Wit Studio's upcoming remake of the beloved anime series for Netflix, has unveiled artwork from its inaugural episode, titled "Romance Dawn." The reveal occurred during Netflix's Anime Studio Focus panel at the Annecy International Festival.
This first episode's artwork offers a glimpse into the new adaptation, which is set to adapt the initial 50 chapters of Eiichiro Oda's manga. The entire first season will consist of seven episodes, recapping this early portion of the story over roughly 300 minutes. Netflix plans a worldwide release for the season in February 2027.
Directed by Masashi Koizuka, with Hideaki Abe serving as assistant director, the series boasts a notable staff. Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda are handling character design and chief animation direction, while Taku Kishimoto is in charge of series scripts. Wit Studio aims for a tighter pacing than the original Toei Animation series, as stated by Wit Studio President George Wada, while still respecting the original work.
The remake, first announced at Jump Festa '24, commemorates 25 years of the anime adaptation and is confirmed to start from the East Blue Saga. A teaser trailer for the series is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. JST.
