The upcoming television anime adaptation of The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life (also known as Chi-Fuyo) has confirmed its broadcast schedule, setting a premiere for October 6. The announcement arrived alongside a new promotional video and key visual, offering a closer look at the series' fantasy world and its protagonist, Rein Garland, voiced by Daiki Yamashita.
In addition to the premiere date, the production team revealed three new cast members joining the ensemble: Takumi Yamazaki will voice the dual roles of Donguri and Donguri (Real), Taiten Kusunoki joins as Balius, and Megumi Toyoguchi takes on the role of Glenda. The trailer also provides a preview of the opening theme song, "Ember Torch," performed by the rock band sumika.
The series follows Rein, an enchanter who finds himself suddenly dismissed from his guild despite his vital role in strengthening equipment. After reclaiming his mana and accidentally turning a simple copper sword into an overpowered weapon, he embarks on a journey to live life on his own terms. The anime is helmed by director Shū Honma at P.A. Works, with series scripts handled by Yōko Yonaiyama.
While the anime is just weeks away, the source material has already built a significant footprint. The original story by Asa Rokushima has been serialized on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website since 2021, while the manga adaptation by Gyōmuyōmochi—which currently spans 21 volumes—is available digitally in English via Kodansha’s K MANGA service. With P.A. Works handling the animation, viewers can look forward to seeing how the studio’s signature production values translate the series' blend of humor and character-driven drama.
