The latest anime film from the Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei franchise, The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE - Yotsuba Succession Arc -, has landed at the #5 spot in its opening weekend at the Japanese box office. The movie sold around 89,000 tickets and grossed 152,764,200 yen (approximately $967,100 USD) during its first three days of release.
Directed by Jimmy Stone with animation by studio 8-Bit, the film adapts the Yotsuba Succession Arc. Fans will be pleased to see the return of key voice cast members, including Yūichi Nakamura as Tatsuya Shiba and Saori Hayami as Miyuki Shiba. New additions to the cast feature Daisuke Ono as Katsushige Shibata and Ai Kayano as Yuuka Tsukuba. The theme song, titled "YES," is performed by LiSA.
This movie entry follows the events of The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3, further expanding the popular urban fantasy series. The original story and character designs are credited to Tsutomu Satou and Kana Ishida, respectively, with Taku Iwasaki handling the music composition.
