NIS America revealed that The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster is scheduled for a Western debut on May 13, 2027. The publisher confirmed availability for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. This follows the title's initial release in Japan on April 30, 2027.
The narrative follows a protagonist named Mono who enters a facility called an Asylum Library to rescue her sister. The sister is afflicted by Paper Mortis, a condition that alters those infected into paper-based creatures. Gameplay involves navigating side-scrolling environments that shift based on the memories and traumas of the patients trapped within the library. Mono is joined by a companion named Mär, a paper monster seeking vengeance against humanity.
Key production staff include director Kento Jobana, who previously worked on Disgaea 7. Visuals were handled by illustrator Sayaka Oda, while Takeshi Matsumoto provided the musical score. Both Oda and Matsumoto are known for their prior work on The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince. The theme song is performed by Akiko Shikata, a musician recognized for her contributions to the Ar Tonelico franchise.
