The hit crime comedy The Fable is officially returning to the screen, with the production team confirming a January 10, 2027, premiere date for its second season. Airing on the Nippon TV network, the new installment is set to adapt the intense Yamaoka-hen arc. Alongside the announcement, the production unveiled a new key visual and a significant expansion to the voice cast, headlined by Kouichi Yamadera as the enigmatic Yamaoka.

Joining Yamadera in the new season are Takanori Hoshino as Azami, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Eucalyptus, Satoshi Mikami as Koji Mizuno, Taiten Kusunoki as Jiro, and Seiyuu Fujiwara as Suzumushi. Behind the scenes, director Ryousuke Takahashi is back at the helm at Tezuka Productions, working from a series composition by Yuuya Takashima. The creative team also features Saki Hasegawa and Kyuuma Ooshita on character designs, with music composed by Yo Tsuji.

This second season follows a 25-episode debut that aired in Spring 2024. While the anime continues to build its momentum, the source material remains a powerhouse in the industry; the original manga earned the 41st Kodansha Manga Award in 2017 and has since expanded into multiple sequels, including the ongoing The Fable: The Third Secret. With the manga's conclusion and the current serialization of the third entry, the anime adaptation now has a clear roadmap for the narrative ahead.

Given the transition into the Yamaoka-hen arc, which introduces several key antagonists, the addition of veteran voice talent like Yamadera suggests a focus on maintaining the series' signature balance of dark crime drama and deadpan humor. It remains to be seen if the series will maintain its previous simulcast availability on Disney+ and Hulu, as official streaming platforms for the 2027 broadcast have yet to be confirmed.
