The long-awaited anime adaptation of Hifumi’s light novel series The Eternal Fool's Words of Wisdom is officially set for a January 2027 debut. A newly released teaser trailer offers a first look at the production, which follows the centuries-old sorcerer Asley as he finally emerges from solitude to reintegrate into a society he has long been disconnected from.
Studio Elle is spearheading the production, with Keisuke Ōnishi—known for his work on The Healer Who Was Banished From His Party, Is, in Fact, the Strongest—taking the helm as director. The series scripts are being handled by Kurasumi Sunayama, while Yumiko Mizuno serves as character designer. The musical score is being composed by Yuri Habuka at Lantis. Crunchyroll has secured the rights to stream the series internationally.
The voice cast features Toshiyuki Toyonaga in the lead role of Asley, with Yōko Hikasa providing the voice for his Level 100 canine companion, Pochi. The story centers on Asley’s attempt to shed his reputation as an "eternal fool" while navigating a world that has evolved significantly during his two centuries of self-imposed hermitage.
This adaptation draws from the original web novel serialized on Shōsetsuka ni Narō and the long-running manga adaptation by Fuh Araki, which has been serialized in Comic Earth Star since 2017. With the manga currently available in English via J-Novel Club, the anime aims to capture the comedic and adventurous tone of Asley’s quest to save the world—assuming he can survive the "friendly advice" of his familiar.
