The production team for the second season of The Elusive Samurai (Nigejōzu no Wakagimi) announced a new addition to the cast this Friday, confirming that Niina Hanamiya will voice the character Mima. This update arrives as the series continues its current broadcast run, which premiered on July 17 within the Noitamina programming block on Fuji TV.

Returning director Yuta Yamazaki is back at the helm for this second season at studio CloverWorks, maintaining continuity with the show's established visual style. Yasushi Nishiya also returns to handle character designs while stepping into the role of chief animation director. The series is currently available for international viewers through Crunchyroll, which also offers an English dub for the franchise.

Based on the manga by Yūsei Matsui—the creator behind Assassination Classroom—the series follows the historical flight of Tokiyuki Hojo following the collapse of the Kamakura shogunate. While the anime continues to unfold on screen, the source material concluded its run in Weekly Shonen Jump earlier this year in February. With the manga having already secured a Shogakukan Manga Award in 2024, the anime adaptation remains a primary point of interest for fans of the historical action genre.

Given the addition of a new character mid-season, it remains to be seen how Mima’s introduction will shift the power dynamics among Tokiyuki’s allies and enemies. Which upcoming plot developments are you most looking forward to seeing animated this season?
