Director Norihiro Naganuma, known for his work on The Apothecary Diaries, has unveiled a new anime project titled Jurassic Shadows (Ryugesho no Shinobi). The announcement came during a panel at Anime Expo, where the staff also revealed a promotional video, concept art, and screenshots for the upcoming battle anime.
The series is set in Tokyo in 2029 and presents a world where dinosaurs, thought to be extinct, have survived by interbreeding with humans and now live hidden among society, preying on people. Opposing them is a secret ninja order that utilizes "Ryugesho," a special pigment infused with ancient memories. By applying this pigment, the ninjas can awaken dinosaur powers within themselves to fight the hidden reptilian predators threatening humanity.
Naganuma is directing the anime at Cannon Code, with Kenta Ihara (Saga of Tanya the Evil) handling the screenplay. Yukiko Nakatani (The Apothecary Diaries) is designing the characters, based on original designs by Yōichi Amano. The music will be composed by Shūhei Mutsuki (Lycoris Recoil), and the anime is being developed and produced by Slow Curve and Avex Pictures Inc.
Further staff contributions include Misato Aita (The Apothecary Diaries) for color design, Yūsuke Takeda (Chainsaw Man) as art director, Makoto Honda for 3DCG direction, and Shōji Hata (The Apothecary Diaries) as sound director. A manga adaptation by Kodansha is also planned, with more details to be released at a later date.
