The high-stakes historical tournament series Tenkaichi: The Greatest Warrior Under the Rising Sun is officially making the leap to television. A newly launched website for the project debuted a teaser trailer and visual today, confirming that the adaptation is slated for an April 2027 premiere. The footage offers a glimpse at the series' intense combat, centering on the high-stakes power struggle initiated by Oda Nobunaga.
Studio Fugaku is leading the production under the direction of Masashi Abe, known for his work on Casshan: Robot Hunter Casshern. The series scripts are being handled by Kazuharu Sato, while character designs are credited to Ryōji Nakamori. The atmospheric score will be composed by Hayato Matsuo, who previously collaborated with Nakamori on Hellsing Ultimate.
The voice cast for the core historical figures has also been revealed, featuring Gen Sato as the prodigy Miyamoto Musashi, Kenichirō Matsuda as the legendary spearman Honda Tadakatsu, and Kenyū Horiuchi as the aging hegemon Oda Nobunaga. The series adapts the manga by Kyōtarō Azuma and Yōsuke Nakamaru, which imagines an alternate 1600 where Nobunaga forces Japan's greatest generals to pit their strongest warriors against one another to determine his successor.
Since its debut in Young Magazine the 3rd in 2021, the manga has gained a dedicated following for its stylized, visceral battles. With the 14th volume arriving this month and English distribution handled by Kodansha’s K MANGA, the anime aims to capture the same intense, tournament-style spectacle that has defined the source material.
