Bandai Namco Entertainment America has unveiled a new system trailer for Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad, an upcoming action RPG set in the original Aincrad arc of Reki Kawahara's popular series. The trailer provides a glimpse into the game's mechanics, showcasing character abilities, potential partners, and the various weapons players can wield.
The game is slated for release on July 9 in Japan for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, followed by a worldwide launch on July 10 for those platforms and PC via Steam. Players can choose from several editions: the Standard, Deluxe, Ultimate, and the Bandai Namco Store exclusive Aincrad Edition. The Deluxe Edition offers early access to the challenging 'Death Game' mode, where save data is deleted upon character death, alongside a starter item pack and DLC. The Ultimate Edition builds upon this with additional bonus content, including the special anime 'Unanswered//butterfly,' a digital soundtrack, artbook, and in-game armor. The Aincrad Edition bundles all this with exclusive merchandise like a beanie and wall scroll.
The 'Unanswered//butterfly' anime, included with the Ultimate and Aincrad Editions, will explore the stories of other characters during the events of the original Sword Art Online. Aimer performs the game's theme song, titled 'Live to Survive.' Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad places players within the iconic virtual world of Aincrad, as one of the 10,000 trapped participants, fighting alongside familiar characters like Kirito and Asuna.
