Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad, the new action RPG set within the iconic Aincrad arc, has unveiled its opening movie. The trailer showcases the game's visuals and previews the theme song "Live to Survive" by popular artist Aimer. This track will also feature in the bundled "Unanswered//butterfly" anime included with special game editions.

The game places players back into the world of the original Sword Art Online, where they will experience the death game alongside familiar characters like Kirito and Asuna. Echoes of Aincrad is slated for release on July 9 in Japan for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a worldwide launch on all these platforms, plus PC, on July 10.

Bandai Namco Entertainment is offering several editions of the game. Beyond the Standard Edition, players can choose from Deluxe, Ultimate, and the Bandai Namco Store exclusive Aincrad Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes DLC and a starter item pack, while the Ultimate Edition adds the "Unanswered//butterfly" anime, digital soundtrack, artbook, and in-game armor. The Aincrad Edition bundles all this content with exclusive merchandise like a beanie and stickers.

The "Unanswered//butterfly" anime, included with the Ultimate and Premium Editions, delves into events occurring during the original Sword Art Online narrative, focusing on other characters. The Sword Art Online franchise, which began as a web novel in 2001, has expanded into numerous anime seasons, films, manga, and a live-action series. Its popularity is reflected in its consistent presence on anime rankings, with many entries holding high scores on platforms like MyAnimeList.
