The game plunges players into the death game scenario as one of the 10,000 trapped players, exploring the virtual world alongside familiar faces like Kirito and Asuna. A demo featuring five missions and various weapon types is already available, having launched on June 10.

Aimer provides the game's theme song, "Live to Survive." Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad is set to launch on July 9 in Japan for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC release via Steam following on July 10. The Western release is scheduled for July 10 across all platforms.

Several editions will be available, including Standard, Deluxe, Ultimate, and a Bandai Namco Store exclusive Aincrad Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes a season pass and starter items, while the Ultimate Edition adds bonus content such as a special anime titled "Unanswered//butterfly," a digital soundtrack, artbook, and in-game armor. The "Unanswered//butterfly" anime is also bundled with the Aincrad Edition, focusing on other characters during the original Sword Art Online events.
