Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad, the new action RPG from Bandai Namco Entertainment, has unveiled a new trailer showcasing its included bonus anime, 'Unanswered//butterfly'. The game is set in the virtual world of Aincrad, the same iconic setting as the original Sword Art Online story, allowing players to experience the death game alongside familiar characters like Kirito and Asuna.
Bandai Namco also released a separate television commercial featuring the game's theme song, 'Live to Survive', performed by Aimer. The 'Unanswered//butterfly' anime is a special promotional piece that follows other characters during the events of the original Sword Art Online narrative. It will be bundled with the Ultimate and Premium Editions of the game.
The game is scheduled for release in Japan on July 9 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC release via Steam on July 10. Western territories will receive the game across all platforms on July 10. Several editions will be available, including Standard, Deluxe, Ultimate, and an exclusive Aincrad Edition from the Bandai Namco Store, offering various bonus items and content.
The Sword Art Online franchise, originating from Reki Kawahara's web novels, has expanded into multiple anime seasons, films, and spin-off series. The 'Echoes of Aincrad' game and its bonus anime continue this expansive multimedia presence, with the anime produced by Polygon Pictures.
