Gido Amagakure, the mangaka celebrated for the emotional depth of Sweetness & Lightning, is seeing another one of her works head to television. An official website launched this week to confirm that a TV anime adaptation of her comedy series Yurayura Q has been green-lit.
The series centers on Kyūko, a high school student born to a human and a fox. Despite having eight talented older siblings, Kyūko struggles with feelings of ordinariness and difficulty controlling her inherent fox powers. Her daily life is complicated by her childhood friend, Haru-chan, who makes no secret of his adoration for her, creating a lighthearted dynamic as she navigates her identity and her efforts to support those around her.
Amagakure began serializing the manga in The Hana to Yume Fantasy in 2019, with the fifth compiled volume released by Hakusensha earlier this year. The manga is slated to conclude its run on July 27.
This adaptation follows a string of successful screen transitions for Amagakure’s work. Her previous hits, including the 12-volume Sweetness & Lightning and the supernatural romance A Galaxy Next Door, both received anime adaptations in 2016 and 2023, respectively. With her latest project, Tomoshibi Kara Sparkle, having debuted this past April, Amagakure continues to be a prolific voice in the current manga landscape.
