Netflix has officially announced an anime adaptation of Kasumi Yasuda's Fool Night manga, set to premiere globally on the streaming service in 2026. The announcement was made during Netflix's Anime Studio Focus panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The production is a notable collaboration between veteran studios Sunrise and Shaft.

The main cast includes Kouki Uchiyama, known for his role in Devilman: Crybaby, as Toushirou Kamiya, and Minako Kotobuki from Hibike! Euphonium as Yomiko Hourai. Directing the series is Atsuyuki Yukawa, who previously worked on Suzume no Tojimari, with Ryou Shimura serving as assistant director. Jin Tanaka, a writer for One Piece, is handling series composition.

Fool Night is a sci-fi drama set in a future where Earth is shrouded in clouds, leading humanity to develop a technology that transforms people into plants to generate oxygen. The story follows Toshiro Kamiya as he grapples with difficult choices concerning his family's survival and the ethical implications of this process. The manga, which began serialization in Big Comic Superior in November 2020, has received critical acclaim, placing 12th in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023 rankings and earning recognition in MyAnimeList's 'You Should Read This Manga' category for its unique art and story.
