Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced a special project to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the renowned animation studio Sunrise. Titled Mirai e no Kouro (A Voyage Towards the Future), the initiative will deliver six original 3DCG short movies.

The project has unveiled the first two shorts, Haseo Sugoroku (Dice with Demon) and Metafear, complete with teaser visuals and promotional videos. Hidekazu Ohara, known for Sweat Punch, is directing Haseo Sugoroku at Sunrise. Meanwhile, Shuuhei Morita, who helmed Tokyo Ghoul, is directing Metafear at Yamato Works, featuring character and visual designs by Tatsuyuki Tanaka.

Haseo Sugoroku is set in Heian-era Japan, where a nobleman named Ki no Haseo confesses to playing a dangerous game with a demon to resurrect his late wife. Metafear follows a girl plagued by nightmares who attempts to name her dreams, only for an unnamable nightmare to manifest as a monster and unleash chaos upon the world.

This project adds to Sunrise's legacy, a studio responsible for iconic franchises such as Gundam, Code Geass, and Cowboy Bebop. While the source article focuses on this new short film initiative, the wider industry often sees such anniversary projects as a way to engage long-time fans and showcase new creative directions. The studios involved, including Sunrise itself, are pooling their talents for this multi-faceted celebration. *Source: Comic Natalie(https://www.comic-news.com/)
