The Summer Time Rendering franchise is expanding once again with a live-action film adaptation slated for a 2027 release. The announcement, delivered via the series' official social media channels, confirms that director Ken Ninomiya will helm the project. This film follows a long-gestating plan for a live-action iteration, which was first teased back in 2021 alongside the debut of the television anime.
Yasuki Tanaka’s original manga, which concluded in 2021, remains a standout in the supernatural suspense genre. The story follows Shinpei Ajiro, who returns to his home on Hitogashima island for the funeral of his childhood friend, Ushio, only to uncover a dark, time-looping conspiracy. With a strong 8.46 rating on MyAnimeList and a ranking in the top 200, the series has maintained a dedicated following since its serialization on Shonen Jump+.
The franchise previously saw a successful 25-episode anime adaptation produced by OLM, which aired in 2022 and provided a complete narrative arc covering the entirety of the manga. Beyond the screen, the story has also permeated the gaming space, receiving a dedicated title for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023.
