Japanese animation powerhouse Studio Khara has been tapped to produce a segment for the upcoming animated film Baahubali: The Eternal War Part 1. The film, based on the Indian Telugu-language Baahubali franchise, will incorporate contributions from multiple international studios, with Khara representing Japan.
Akira Honma is directing Khara's specific sequence, with character designs by Noriko Itō, known for her work on Undead Murder Farce. Mahiro Maeda, a veteran animator involved with the Rebuild of Evangelion series, is also a key creative contributor to the project. Japanese production company SlowCurve is managing the planning and coordination between the various international teams.
The film, directed by Ishan Shukla, who previously worked on Star Wars: Visions, will feature a screenplay written by Scott Mosier. Baahubali: The Eternal War Part 1 is slated for release in 2027 and will explore the story of Prince Amarendra Baahubali in the afterlife, following his betrayal and murder.
