The Pokémon Company has expanded its POKÉTOON collection with the release of a new short film, titled Wartortle and the Ongoing Summer (Kameil to Natsu no Tsuzuku). The story centers on a young boy named Rikuto who encounters a Wartortle while visiting his grandmother’s island home during the final days of the summer season.
Production duties were split between Studio Chromato and Studio Colorido, with acclaimed director Shingo Yamashita at the helm. The creative team also includes screenwriter Aya Satsuki, while Riiki Miura handled character design and served as the chief animation director. The atmospheric score for the short was composed by Kyosuke Kagawa.
The voice cast features Sayaka Senbongi as the protagonist, Rikuto, alongside Tasuku Hatanaka as Gaku and Akiko Hiramatsu as Shuri. Kana Hanazawa provides the voice for the titular Wartortle, with additional roles filled by Natsumi Haruse as Leafeon and Michiyo Murase as Bellsprout. The short is currently available for viewing on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.
