The Pokémon franchise is expanding its stop-motion footprint through a new collaboration with the acclaimed British studio Aardman. During the PokémonXP event, officials confirmed that Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd and Pichu is slated for a 2027 premiere on Disney+ and Disney XD. A newly released teaser trailer provides a first look at the project, highlighting the distinct claymation style applied to fan-favorite creatures like Sirfetch'd and Wooloo.
Creative leadership for the series includes director Tom Parkinson, creative director Natalie McKay, and creative lead James Young. According to Aardman co-founder Peter Lord, the series will be set in a region inspired by the United Kingdom, a nod to the Galar region where these specific Pokémon were first introduced in the Pokémon Sword and Shield games. This project follows the success of the Netflix-exclusive Pokémon Concierge, which was produced by dwarf studios.
This announcement arrives alongside a broader distribution agreement between The Pokémon Company International and Disney, which recently brought the original Indigo League season to the platform. While Pokémon Horizons continues its run on Netflix, the move to Disney+ for this new stop-motion venture highlights a multi-platform strategy for the brand's various animated iterations. With the 2027 window still distant, it remains to be seen how many episodes the series will comprise and if other Galar-native Pokémon will join the cast.
