During the Tokyo Game Show 2026 livestream, Sega and Ryu ga Gotoku Studio provided an extensive look at Stranger Than Heaven, the project formerly known as "Project Century." The 10-minute preview highlights the game's opening sequence, introduces the Showbiz lounge, and demonstrates the combat mechanics that players can expect when the title arrives on January 15, 2027.

The game spans five decades of Japanese history, moving through locales such as 1915 Kokura, 1929 Kure, and 1965 Kamurocho. The narrative follows Makoto Daito, portrayed by Yลซ Shirota, as he navigates a journey from San Francisco to his mother's homeland. The production features a notable cast, including Snoop Dogg, Ado, and Tori Kelly, who also collaborated on the game's titular theme song.

In a unique production move, the studio has incorporated the late actor Bunta Sugawara into the game. With the cooperation of his family and Toei Company Ltd., the team utilized archival materials to create a CG model of the legendary performer, who appears as the character Genzo Iwaki. Beyond the game itself, a live-action film adaptation is currently in development for Netflix.

This release marks another major expansion for the studio, following the February 2026 launch of Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties. While the studio is best known for the long-running Like a Dragon franchise, Stranger Than Heaven represents a departure into a broader historical scope. With a confirmed Game Pass release, the title is positioned to reach a wide audience immediately upon its January debut.
