Nintendo announced a significant expansion for its recent Star Fox remake during Wednesday's Nintendo Direct. The title, which launched on the Switch 2 on June 25, is set to receive a free update for its Battle Mode on September 29. This patch introduces long-requested features including split-screen functionality, additional stages, and support for four-player local multiplayer on a single console.
Beyond the competitive update, Nintendo is expanding its legacy catalog by adding the 2002 title Star Fox Adventures to the Nintendo GameCube โ Nintendo Classics Switch Online Expansion Pack. This addition arrives on the same day as the Battle Mode update, allowing players to revisit the action-adventure title that takes place eight years after the events of the original Star Fox 64.
The current Star Fox remake maintains the core mechanics of the 1997 classic while introducing modern enhancements such as an orchestral soundtrack, fully voiced cinematic briefings, and a Challenge Mode. The game also features unique integration with the Switch 2 hardware, including Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and GameShare capabilities for both campaign and online multiplayer modes.
With Star Fox Adventures now joining the service, the library continues to bridge the gap between the franchise's rail-shooter roots and its experimental spin-offs. Given the inclusion of GameShare and interactive avatar support via GameChat, which of the new Battle Mode features are you most looking forward to testing with friends?
