Saburō Nagai is expanding his bibliography with a fresh boys-love title, Iei ga Nai! (There's No Deceased Portrait!). The series is set to begin serialization in Shinchosha's Kurage Bunch magazine this Tuesday, marking a new chapter for the artist following his previous contributions to the medium.
Nagai gained significant recognition for Smells Like Green Spirit, which ran between 2011 and 2012 and was later divided into two distinct volumes, "Side:A" and "Side:B." The franchise maintained a steady presence over the years, eventually expanding into a five-volume spinoff titled Shintan Kairō. The core story also made the jump to live-action, with a television series airing in September 2024 and a subsequent compilation film released in June 2025.
International readers may recognize Nagai's work through Kodansha USA’s English edition of his signature series or SuBLime’s 2013 release of Boys, Be Ambitious!. As Kurage Bunch hosts this latest launch, it remains to be seen how the new narrative will compare to the thematic and stylistic hallmarks of his earlier projects.
