Kadokawa has officially pulled back the curtain on the television anime adaptation of Ichi Yukishiro's Skull Dragon's Precious Daughter, confirming a 2027 release window. The announcement arrived alongside the series' first promotional video and a main visual, offering an early look at the heartwarming fantasy series. The story follows an aging, skeletal dragon who discovers a young human girl named Eve in the Forest of Scraps and decides to raise her, only to find that their bond transcends his own mortality.
The production team is anchored by director Kuniyasu Nishina, known for his work on Oshi no Ko and 86, at studio Dōga Kōbō. Yuka Yamada, whose credits include Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S, is overseeing the series composition, while Tomoya Atsumi is handling character designs. The lead roles have been filled by veteran voice actors: Kana Hanazawa will voice the young Eve, and Kazuhiko Inoue will provide the voice for Nemu, the titular Skull Dragon.
While the anime is still in development, the source material has maintained a steady following since its 2020 debut on Mag Garden's Mag Comi website. The manga is currently on hiatus as of July 2026, with a planned return in the spring of 2027, aligning the series' revival with the upcoming anime production cycle. English-language readers can access the series through J-Novel Club’s digital releases or Seven Seas Entertainment’s print editions, with the sixth volume slated for a December 1 release.
Why it matters: The choice of Dōga Kōbō as the studio suggests a focus on character-driven animation, which fits the intimate, emotional core of the source material. With the manga returning from hiatus just as the anime gears up for its 2027 debut, the production appears to be timing its momentum to coincide with the story's next major arc.
