Akihiro Miwa, a towering figure in Japanese entertainment renowned for his distinctive voice work in Studio Ghibli films, has died at the age of 91. His passing was announced by his agency on Sunday, June 28, confirming he died on June 20 due to old age. Miwa had been gradually reducing his professional commitments over the past year due to his advanced age.

In recognition of his multifaceted contributions and his pioneering spirit in post-war Japan, Miwa was designated an "Honorary Citizen of Tokyo" in 2018.
