Singapore-based anime venture studio Kasagi Labo has revealed plans for a new project set within the world of Ninja Scroll. The announcement was made during the studio's panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. While details remain scarce, information presented suggests the project will be a film.

Adding significant pedigree to the production, Masao Maruyama, a pivotal figure in anime as a co-founder of both Madhouse and MAPPA, is serving as a special creative advisor. Maruyama was also a producer on the original 1993 Ninja Scroll film, which was directed, written, and character-designed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri. The original film, a cult classic, garnered significant popularity in the West after its initial release.

Kasagi Labo's involvement marks a potential revival for the franchise, which also spawned a 13-episode television anime series by Madhouse in 2003. The original film has recently seen renewed attention with a 4K restoration spearheaded by Sentai Filmworks, which is releasing it on limited edition Blu-ray in early 2027. Sentai Filmworks also recently screened the 4K version in select theaters across the U.S. and Canada.
